Social Solidarity Initiative – Food Assistance for Vulnerable Members of Our Community

Purpose of the Initiative

The collaboration focuses on the distribution of food parcels and fresh produce to members of the community, offering meaningful relief in view of the holiday season and increased needs. The initiative stands as a tangible demonstration of the shared commitment to addressing food insecurity.

The distribution of the food parcels took place at the Reception and Solidarity Center of the City of Athens (KYADA) on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, benefiting families supported by the City of Athens, families within Emfasis’ network of beneficiaries, as well as individuals experiencing homelessness.

Valued Sponsors

The success of the initiative was made possible through the generous contributions of sponsors who ensured the high quality of the distributed products:

  • Floridis Meat Company: Sponsor of fresh meat products, ensuring the provision of complete and nutritious meals.
  • Papaspirou Company: Sponsor of sweets, adding a sense of joy and a festive spirit for the families.

About the Reception and Solidarity Center of the City of Athens

The work of the Reception and Solidarity Center of the City of Athens, the municipal body providing essential support to homeless and vulnerable residents of Athens, is multifaceted and carried out through a wide range of facilities and services. In particular, the Citizens’ Solidarity Hub supports more than 3,500 families living below the poverty line by offering an extensive range of goods and services, including food, personal hygiene items, clothing, and household cleaning products.

KYADA also operates three Social Medical Clinics (General Medicine, Mental Health, and Dental Care), a Social Hair Salon, and a Social Laundry.
The “Estia of Athens” provides accommodation for elderly homeless individuals, while the Multidisciplinary Homeless Center, through its Day Center, covers basic daily needs of homeless beneficiaries, such as meals, laundry services, personal hygiene facilities, clothing, psychological support, medical monitoring, and accommodation.

At the same time, interdisciplinary Street Work teams—comprising social workers, psychologists, and nurses—carry out on-site interventions, offering daily food portions, beverages, clothing, and information on available housing options and social services to people living on the streets.
