The European summer tour dates are in full swing, as are AWMH’s #MetallicaGivesBack tour grants! As in years past, each M72 World Tour stop offers the Foundation and our partners the opportunity to provide financial aid to local nonprofit organizations. Providing funds toward relief for food insecurity and support for critical local services remains our priority with these tour grants.
Working at the local level in Athens, Greece, we partnered with Live Nation and High Priority Promotions to grant donations to two incredible organizations. Receiving funds in Athens are Food Banks Greece and Emfasis Non-Profit.
Since 1995, Food Banks Greece has operated with the sole purpose of fighting hunger and reducing food waste, with the central slogan "We don't throw anything away." The organization works diligently to collect surplus from a variety of food industry suppliers, including supermarkets, agricultural cooperatives, government bodies, and citizens. The food is stored safely at the organization’s facilities before being redistributed to a structured network of food pantries and institutions throughout Athens, ensuring that the people who need access to food are granted such. Food Banks Greece is receiving €20,000.
Since 2013, Emfasis Non-Profit has advocated for the right to dignity and provided immediate relief to those experiencing or are at risk of homelessness and social exclusion. The organization employs specialized Streetworkers who operate actively in the field, supported by trained volunteers and equipped with three Mobile Support Units, enhancing the visibility and contributing to the destigmatization of the more than 1,800 people sleeping on the streets of Athens. Their daily work focuses on ensuring that the most vulnerable members of the community have access to vital social welfare services, such as housing and psychosocial counseling. At the same time, through the organization’s Supply Management Center, they provide essential goods and respond to individualized requests. To learn more about their work, check out Roofless Dreams, a documentary about Emfasis and the community it serves. Emfasis is receiving €20,000.
